Here’s Mud In Your Eye

It seems like it was just yesterday

I was a young man still finding my way.

So much to learn and so much to be.

Now the years have all caught up with me.

So here’s mud in your eye and pie in the sky.

Ain’t it amazing how life hurries by.

You blink for a second and an hour will fly,

But for now, here’s mud in your eye.

Women have come and women have gone,

And I was truly in love with each one.

Love may not always last too long,

But that doesn’t mean it was wrong.

So here’s mud in your eye and a fond kiss goodbye.

A pretty girl can still make me sigh.

I guess that spirit will never run dry.

Now and always, here’s mud in your eye.

You know you’re living on borrowed time.

You don’t own yours and I don’t own mine.

Time is a lender who always collects,

And you don’t know when you may be next.

But here’s mud in your eye, and God help you and I.

Ain’t it a shame that we all have to die?

There’s no use in wondering why.

When the end comes, say “Here’s mud in your eye.”

Just say “Here’s mud in your eye.”
