I’m Going To Memphis (’Cause Your Love Gives Me The Blues)

I never will forget the days when we’d just met.

Your love for me seemed too good to be true.

Well, that’s just what it was. I know it now because

Being true was what you couldn’t do.

You told me you were mine, but you were always lyin’.

Each time you had another sad excuse.

You tore me up inside, so I’m getting off this ride.

I’m going to Memphis ’cause your love gives me the blues.

You thought you’d always be three steps ahead of me

’Cause you’ve been round the track a time or two.

By now you ought to know this ain’t my first rodeo,

And this old dog’s got nothing to learn from you.

You had to have your fling, and that’s the sort of thing

That makes me want to wear my traveling shoes.

You thought that I was blind, but now I’m leaving you behind.

I’m going to Memphis ’cause your love gives me the blues.

If it still isn’t clear why I’m leaving you, my dear,

It’s time you went and bought yourself a clue.

I’ll put you in a song, each verse twelve bars long,

All about the pain you put me through.

I think it’s for the best if we just lay our love to rest.

Then you’ll be free to live the life you choose.

It’s no use hanging on. Tomorrow I’ll be gone.

I’m going to Memphis ’cause your love gives me the blues.
