Can it be
so surprising that your laugh, just your laugh,
Turns my day to a day and a half?
You come from nowhere and sit on my
knee with a plea, “Sing to me.”
Before long there’s a song, or two,
or three.
You’ll be older and ask why we led
you so far from what you are,
And you’ll know, when you grow it
leaves a scar.
We were all once as simple as you,
but all the same the changes came.
And like you we never knew who to
blame.
